Day 4: Morning time

Hopefully, you are walking up after the best nights sleep ever and are now sold on the magical benefits of yoga! Feeling connected to your body, getting moving and stretching out is a great way to start the day, so let's begin.


When you are not quite ready to pull back the covers, simply roll onto your tummy and draw your knees up under you, like last nights child's pose but with your knees apart and your arms stretched out over your head. Find a comfortable position using pillows and breath deeply.


Next, roll onto your back and bring your legs up. Hold onto your feet and gently rock side to side - this position is called Happy Baby - no guesses why! Notice how bringing your feet up higher towards the head of the bed and then down towards the bottom massages and loosens different areas of your spine and take as much time as you like enjoying the sensation.

Now bring your feet back down onto the mattress, knees up with your feet close to your fingertips for some supine twists. Lower both knees down to the left and your arms out to the side, palms facing the ceiling and turn your gaze over your shoulder to the right. Let your shoulders soften into the mattress and relax. When you are ready, bring your knees back up and lower them to the right and turn your gaze to the left. Again breath deeply and relax your shoulders.


Now put your feet on the floor and stretch your body up. Get up and get your body moving. Pop the kettle on and while you are waiting for it to boil put on some cheesy music and dance like a nutter round your kitchen. If the kids are already up and around, get them involved. There is no better way to start the day than laughing and dancing with your family…. Do it, be brave, be outrageous and see how good it feels.


Add this little ritual to your morning routine and remember to do your nightly relaxing movements and diary entries too…. Trust that it might seem like a small thing to do, but these habits all add together and will change your life!
